For her new dance piece HELIX, the Japanese dancer and choreographer Emi Miyoshi invited two musicians from Freiburg to experiment with the subjects of “life cycles” and “memory cycles”: the composer and specialist in works for cassette recorders Thomas Wenk and the digital sound artist Ephraim Wegner. The central motif is the »helix«, a three-dimensional spiral with no beginning or end. Using digital and analog sounds generated on cassette recorders, the two musicians, together with the three dancers Emi Miyoshi, Rebecca Jefferson and Ruben Reniers, create an audio-visual space that makes the pull of the »Helix« tangible.
"HELIX" is the first work by Emi Miyoshi under the label SHIBUI-Kollektiv, which she founded, which is dedicated to the fusion of dance with other art forms.
