Dance Across Borders

What happens when young dancers from Germany, France and Italy come together to dance, create and exchange ideas?

With CoESIONI, we are part of an international dance project connecting young people from the Freiburg region, Grand Est and Puglia. Together with Compagnie EZ3 from Strasbourg and RiESCo from Puglia, we want to create spaces where different dance experiences, perspectives and cultural backgrounds meet – and where something new and shared can emerge.

For SHIBUI Kollektiv, CoESIONI is a special opportunity to open our artistic practice to a younger generation of dancers for the first time in a focused way. We are interested not only in learning movement, but above all in exploring together: How can we communicate through the body? How do we respond to one another? How can different movement backgrounds and ideas develop into shared choreographic material and new connections?

The Starting Point in Freiburg

On 28 and 29 November 2026, we invite young dancers aged 16–22 to a free two-day workshop at Theater Freiburg.

Together with choreographers Emi Miyoshi (SHIBUI Kollektiv) and Ezio Schiavulli (Compagnie EZ3), we will work with contemporary dance techniques, improvisation and choreographic tasks. You will explore different ways of working, develop your own movement material and meet other young people who are interested in engaging intensively with dance and movement.

The workshop is aimed at young people with previous dance experience. You do not need to master a particular technique perfectly. What matters is curiosity, openness and a willingness to explore new forms of movement and collaborative artistic processes.

Participation in the workshop is free of charge.

From Freiburg to Strasbourg

The workshop is also the first step into the international CoESIONI project.

Participants from the Freiburg group may have the opportunity to continue as part of the project week taking place from 26 April to 1 May 2027 at Théâtre de Hautepierre in Strasbourg. There, young dancers from Germany, France and Italy will come together and work for one week with professional artists and dance educators.

The focus will be on movement, contemporary dance, improvisation, choreographic practice and exchange between the different groups. Other artistic media and new technologies, such as video, will also be explored, asking how they can expand movement and choreographic processes.

Together, the participants will develop an artistic work that will be presented publicly at Théâtre de Hautepierre at the end of the week.

CoESIONI is therefore more than a workshop: it is an opportunity to become part of an international artistic exchange, meet new people and discover different ways of working – and to experience how dance can create connections across linguistic and geographical borders.
